The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) opened yesterday (Wednesday) Omani Products Exhibition at Carrefour in Muscat City Center, under the auspices of Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Khusaibi, Director General for Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Al Khusaibi stressed that the local products plays a significant role in advancing the national economy and promoting the future vision of Oman 2020. "Taking into consideration the role reflected by the local-made products, we have to hail the efforts made by the Omani government, represented by the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) in enabling consumers to clearly identify the impact of Oman-made products. The series of Omani Products Exhibition attempt to introduce national products to the local and foreign consumers," Al Khusaibi said.

He added, "Nearly, most if not all, of the local products meet the specifications and standards approved by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This is evident through the ability of these products to compete in various global markets."

Hamood bin Abdullah Al Balushi, Director of Omani Product Department at PEIE, said: "The ten-day exhibition comes as part of the series of events of the Omani Campaign in 2012 and in line with the continuous cooperation between PEIE and several commercial centers in Oman."

"These exhibitions are being held to motivate consumers, whether individuals or institutions, to buy the products that are manufactured locally. Besides, such exhibitions raise awareness about the positive effect of purchasing Omani products in supporting the national economy," Al Balushi pointed out.

This year, around 18 exhibitions will be held in the various governorates of the Sultanate. "There is also a plan to organize these exhibitions outside the Sultanate in order to create a wider awareness on the importance of the national products on a global level," he informed.

Al Balushi noted that the Omani Campaign is a national initiative designed "to encourage consumers and organizations to buy Oman made goods and services wherever possible, and promote national pride in our manufacturing industry and the economic importance of buying Oman made products."
